Jim du Bois, President & CEO - Minnesota Broadcasters Association
Jim is a friend and a good contributor to the site. I worked with Jim when he had his first on-air job at KTCR-FM, when he was the weekend and relief DJ playing country records. Jim later went to WDGY and later KEEY. Jim du Bois is currently the President and CEO of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association. Jim is a wealth of knowledge on radio back to the 1970's and is a board member of the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting, demonstrating his interest in preserving radio history. With exception of the aircheck I recorded of him on KTCR-FM (below), the items posted here on this page are from his personal collection of airchecks. I have more of his collection to post, so please check back.

KTCR-FM Jim du Bois December 1973
I worked with Jim at KTCR-FM when he was doing weekends at KTCR-FM. Jim later went on the WDGY and then KEEY. This tape is typical KTCR-FM country. I finally found this in my storage locker. It was recorded off the air on reel to reel tape using my TEAC 1240 tape deck.

KRSI-AM 950 Before Request Radio
Terry Tersari - November 22nd, 1967
You will notice the old KRSI Channel 95 Jingles sound a bit like the KDWB Channel 63 jingles. No requests being taken on the Terry Tersari show. News and some commercials are left in. In one commercial, you can buy a thermometer that is guaranteed to provide accurate readings up to 120 degrees and down to 60 below. Just send one dollar to KRSI 4500 Excelsior Blvd. At about 11:40 into the recording you will hear Terry accidentally kill the instrumental "Alfie." Later Terry turns over KRSI to the program "Back to The Bible."

This one has the news opening theme and Bob Ryan's full newscast segment, with commercials. Not quite News Radio, but still interesting to listen to for the memories.

WDGY - Johnny Canton May 11, 1969
This aircheck has the music scoped out, but the commercials and promos are left in, providing a glimpse into the times. There is a promo of Jim Dandy announcing he was returning to WDGY (to fill the shift left by Rob Sherwood when he went to KDWB). Dandy informs us that if we do not listen, he will tear our heads off.
There is an interesting commercial for Carnation Instant Breakfast that is true to the flower power of the times. The young announcer in the spots is getting very turned on, but it is not sexual. For those of us who were around in the late 60's, this tape will bring back a lot of memories.
I am very grateful to Jim du Bois, President and CEO of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association, for getting me a copy of this aircheck. Jim and I worked together at KTCR-FM (way back before it was sold and turned into KTCZ "The Cities 97"). The photo of us to the right was taken May 4th 2007.
